Hurricane takes FID on Lancaster, starts fabrication

Hurricane Energy has made a final investment decision on its Lancaster early production system (EPS) development and expects regulatory approval shortly.

The Lancaster EPS is a two-well tieback to a floating production, storage and loading facility that is expected to produce 17,000 b/d and provide data required for a full field development.

Procurement and fabrication work has already started on the subsea equipment and mooring buoy, with first on track for 1H 2019.

The independent, west of Shetland-focused fractured basement explorer says the Aoka Mizu floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel is now en-route to Dubai for upgrade work before its deployment on the field. The vessel previously worked on Nexen's Blackbird and Ettrick fields in the UK North Sea.

Work has also started on the fabrication of a mooring buoy, also in Dubai.

A rig contract has been signed with Transocean for use of the Paul B. Loyd Jr. semisubmersible drilling rig to complete the already drilled EPS production wells 205/21a-6 and 205/21a-7Z horizontal production wells, starting in Q2 2018.

Fabrication orders have also been placed with TechnipFMC for subsea, umbilicals, risers and flowlines and subsea production systems.

TechnipFMC has started procurement and fabrication of the main subsea components of the development.

Subsea installation activities at Lancaster are scheduled for summer 2018, in advance of the planned arrival of the Aoka Mizu.

The moves follow a successful raising of US$520 million to fund the project last month.

Hurricane CEO Dr Robert Trice said: “Successful completion of the fundraising allowed the company to move ahead with the upgrade of the FPSO, fabrication of the buoy, and procurement of the subsea components for installation work to begin next summer.

“The Lancaster EPS is not only an essential step in planning for the full field development of the company’s Rona Ridge assets, but also represents a substantial development in its own right, with planned production of 17,000 b/d.

“We look forward to providing further updates as we move forward with engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning activities; and once regulatory approval is obtained.”

In May, a new evaluation of Lancaster said the field contains 2.3 billion bbl in place, a 120% increase compared to the 2013 estimate, and attributed 2P reserves to the field for the first time.
