TV star lined up for OAA

TV presenter and maths expert Rachel Riley is set to return as host for this year’s OE-supported Offshore Achievement Awards after winning over the crowd at last year’s ceremony.

After graduating from Oxford with a mathematics degree, Rachel began her career on Countdown in 2009, and has since presented on the Gadget Show and taken part in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.  Rachel will present winners announced on the night with bespoke trophies designed by Robert Gordon University’s Irina Viskanta, the winner of a student trophy design competition.

Also in attendance on the night will be the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International president for 2016, Nathan Meehan. Meehan, who is a senior executive adviser at Baker Hughes and based in Houston, Texas, advises executive management on reservoir and geoscience issues. As 2016 SPE International president, Meehan aims to encourage more interdisciplinary and inter-industry collaboration, whilst also recruiting and mentoring the next generation of oil and gas professionals.

Alan Dick of SPE’s Aberdeen section is set to host the ceremony on 17 March. He said: “After doing such a fantastic job of presenting the awards last year, I am delighted to announce that Rachel will be returning this year. Her experience and involvement with science, technology, engineering and maths subjects throughout her career fits perfectly with the ethos of both SPE Aberdeen and the awards.

“I am also very pleased that Nathan Meehan will be joining us on the evening. His vision for SPE International has great synergy with that of SPE Aberdeen, and I look forward to welcoming him to Aberdeen and hearing more about his future plans for SPE.”

Joining Riley to provide the evening’s entertainment is vocal harmony trio, Belle Noir. Channeling the golden age of Hollywood with their sultry singing style, the band have performed at some of London’s most popular venues, and have appeared on E4’s Made in Chelsea.

The black tie event will take place on Thursday 17 March 2016 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Center. For more information or to book a table at this year’s Offshore Achievement Awards please visit www.spe-oaa.org.
